A chat with Connor LaRocque (interview)

There are a lot of influencers all around the world but it is always a rare chance to witness their rise to success. Thanks to an old acquaintance, I got to follow the evolution of the Canadian Connor LaRocque and I have to say that I'm consistently impressed by what he accomplishes: from leading a whole town and generation to new summits to get his ass on a TEDx conference or on a ring against a MMA expert - Connor seems to have no limit to his energy!


Tell us more about you: who are you and what do you do?

My name’s Connor LaRocque and I am an author and business owner. I own a national media firm called SocialRise Inc, that specializes in lead generation and customer acquisitions. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 6 years and started out selling door-to-door.

What is the biggest challenge that you've ever faced?

Overcoming the death of my best friend.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Building my company SocialRise to a national scale 6 in less than 2 years. Or being a TEDx speaker.

What or who inspires you?

I’m inspired by revolutionaries and innovators; some of my idols are: Gary Vaynerchuck, Grant Cardone, Elon Musk, and Gandhi. I believe each and every one of us has something worth fighting for. I believe my mission in life is to build the next generation of entrepreneurs and leaders.

Have you always been a positive person? Or, what made you become like this?

I’ve always been somewhat happy, go, lucky. I’ve been disciplined since I was a young kid to treat people how you would want to be treated. Growing up somewhat overweight, I knew what it felt like to be judged. I didn’t want to make people feel like that.

What is your biggest fear? How do you manage it on a daily basis?

My biggest fear would have to be heights, yet I want to go skydiving and love roller-coasters. The only way to defeat fear is to face it. I get excited for things that give me that “buzz” of fear because I know I will grow from it. Fighting in a kickboxing ring is terrifying yet it is something I wish I did more of when I was younger.


Let's get down to business! You have just launched a new business: Social Rise. What can you tell us about it?

SocialRise is a marketing firm that specializes in lead generation and customer acquisitions. I found the marketing industry flooded with “smoke and mirrors” and wanted to start something actually tangible and trackable. Leads are the new currency in marketing and that has been our focus. We help a variety of clients B2b and B2b in: mining, insurance, finance, office supplies, and even automotive.

You've been through a huge growth over the last couple years and you now appear as a game changer: what's your secret?

I love life! I am proud to be an entrepreneur and create my own destiny. It fires me right up. It is by far, one of the most difficult things on the planet but it is also the most rewarding. I love talking with people and trying to help. I also love being able to do business with who I want. It’s amazing! The secret sauce is in your energy. What gets you fired up and excited? It also comes down to your network and who you are “connecting with.” When I say connecting, who are you actually having meaningful relationships with. Who are you helping and how are you helping them? Are you selfish or do you genuinely want to help people. That’s the secret.

You're claiming the "Top Leadership Expert in Canada for Millenials" title. What message are you delivering? Do you think this can apply to all millennials around the globe?

My battle-cry is simple: I want to help young adults and entrepreneurs build self sustaining platforms for the rest of their lives. Monetizing your passion using your cellphone as your tool and weapon. Over 5 billion people on the planet have cell phones so yes it absolutely applies to millennials across the world. As part of our battle-cry, if someone is underprivileged it is our job as leaders and entrepreneurs to help those people!


Your life goes at 3000 miles/h, how do you balance work / personal life and leisure? How do you avoid a "burn out"?

My work is part of my pleasure. I love doing deals and connecting. I truly believe the only reason people burn out is that they either don’t have a strong infrastructure and team to support them, or they aren’t doing what they love. My life generally is “full-tilt” and that is by design. We are only here for a short time so I want to have a good time and a wild ride. I try to mix things up and test my limits which excited me.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

One of the top 3 leaders and entrepreneurs to come out of Canada impacting tens of millions.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Try something you've always wanted to, pick up that phone and tell someone why you love them, and most importantly live full throttle and wide open. Life's too short to worry about what people think of you (cause half of the time they are busy living their own lives).
