Turn a pandemic into a positive experience

As we are right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic around the world, many things have been circulating online so far. From challenges to grateful messages, the population is obviously trying to stay positive in these moments of doubts and fear. So how do you react to all of this and how can you turn it into a positive experience?



So here you are, day X of lock down and you feel time is dragging. You don't really sense that you're achieving much, it seems that life is on pause. But as strange as it sounds, it is the perfect opportunity to take a new turn in your life. Why, you may ask.

The actual situation is forcing every single one of us to do things differently, it is shaking our habits and from there we have no choice but to build new ones.


In order to do things differently, we need to think differently. What is now possible?

We can easily get lost in our thoughts and miss the opportunity to transform that time into something more positive so here are a few questions that you could ask yourself to get back on track.


1 - What are you grateful for?

This is a basic but extremely powerful question. Acknowledging the positive aspects of your life will get you to think about your situation and will put you on the right track for creating more positive vibes. You don't need to look for anything fancy, get back to the roots: the sun on your skin, the sound of the wind in the trees...enjoy every single experience.


2 - In your new situation, what does that allow you to do?

Does this give you more time within your day because you don't have to commute for an hour to go to work anymore? Great! You just got an extra couple hours that you didn't have before and you can do whatever you want with it!

Maybe it allows you to spend more time with your partner, your kids, doing your gym, focusing on your personal development, studying...


3 - What matters to you the most at the moment?

Look around and ask yourself what is the most important to you? Is it family, friends, mental health... It's a great opportunity to prioritize what you're doing and establish a new balance.

4 - What would you like to achieve?

This could be for the next couple weeks or months but also years. Set yourself a goal that you want to achieve. Give it as much details as possible.

Remember, an easy way to define a goal is to make it SMART.

S - Specific

M - Measurable

A - Attainable

R - Relevant

T - Time based


5 - What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Review what you're good and not so good at. My advice is to reinforce your strengths as it is an easy process. After all, you become good at something because you enjoy doing it so you want to do it over and over again.

For your weaknesses, try to outsource if possible. If you see that one of them would really benefit you then it is a good time to put yourself to hard work. Focus on the benefit of acquiring that new skill.


6 - Who can help you and who can you help?

Seek for assistance to support you with whatever you need but also offer your help to anyone who needs it. Register yourself to some groups on facebook or meetup...


7 - What is your next action?

The final, and my personal favorite, is about taking action. Now that you've established all the above points, what do you need to do to make it happen? GO!


That's it. You have some elements to help you make the most out of this pandemic. You are in control and you can do it!
